7 Useful Camping Hacks

Camping is a great recreational activity, something that can clear your mind from all the anxiety and stress from your day to day activities. It can also be a way to bond with your family and kids. Some people take camping to a whole new level.

We asked these guys for some of their best hacks and narrowed it down to their top 7!

7 useful camping hacks to have a perfect camping day

1. Organize all your camping essentials in bins or containers - Having your cooking utensils, fire source, hatchets, bug sprays, sleeping bags, tent, tarp and chairs in one place will save you so much time preparing and it minimizes the risk of forgetting something. If you are not a fan of huge bins you can minimize your load by using utility tools such as the F-A3 Shovel instead of bringing a Shovel, hatchet, hammer, and a knife separately. You can also replace your traditional camping chair with Hitorhike's Ultralight Camping Chair which you can fold and fit inside its own carry pouch.

2. Have Some sort of Shelter (aside from your tent) - It's not always sunshine and rainbows when camping. Having a shelter for your cooking area or for the things you can't fit inside your tent is essential. The most suggested shelter is to have a camping tarp set up, it can be set-up anywhere quickly. It would be a smart idea to have the camping tarps in your bin along with other essential items. Don't know where to get one? Click this link and check out our Ultralight Camping Tarp.

3. Freeze your food - Freeze food items that you are not going to eat right away like bacon or burger patties and keep it in a tightly sealed cooler. Another hack is to freeze water inside gallon a plastic bottle. This way your cooler won't be flooded when ice cubes melt and you'll have a cold water to drink. Make sure to place your frozen food near the bottom of the container on top of the frozen bottled water to keep it frozen longer.

4. Prep your food at home - Wash and cut all your vegetables and place it in Tupperware. This way you can prepare food quicker and with less mess in the camp site. Washing your vegetables beforehand is also a great idea because some camps have limited water supply. An additional tip is to pre-prep your meals daily into separate containers, this cuts down on cooking time at the campsite. In short, Tupperware makes your life easier, which brings us to our 5th hack.

5. Bring extra containers for food - These extra containers or zip lock bags are great for your left overs or putting away trash that you don't want to leave on the trail. Left overs tossed out on the trail can also attract animals and other insects, it's always best to keep your food sealed. Extra food containers make packing super easy and very organized.

6. Bring a versatile pan - Cast Iron is king when cooking over a campfire but its is not always the best choice when weight is an issue. Instead of bringing several pans, bring a single pan or pot that will work for frying and deep enough to make soup in. The right pan doesn't require specific fire source, you can use it over a camp fire, a grill, or a portable stove. You have effectively lessened your load with this one particular tip.

7. First Aid Kit - This last hack is one of the most important thing when going outdoors yet it is often neglected. Accidents do happen you can hurt your self in an infinite number of ways especially when you are outdoors. When buying a first aid kit always remember that it is almost the same as buying any camping equipment It must be easy to carry, light, and complete. It should take care of burns, wounds, and sprain. It should also have topical ointment and creams.
